Bharmour, once the ancient capital of Chamba district, situated at an altitude of 7000 feet in the BUDHIL VALLEY.  Bharmour  is  65 kms away from Chamba.    CHAMBA town is well connected by road and  is  185 kms  from Dharamshala;  120 kms from Pathankot and 600 kms from Delhi. 

Bharmour is famous for the ancient temples and scenic beauty.  Bharmour and its surrounding  is also known as the Abode of Lord Shiva — i.e. SHIVA BHUMI.  It lies between the Pir-Panjal range and Dhoulddhar range, between Ravi and Chenab valley.  The people of Bharmour are known as “KAILASH VASIO” as they are courteous and friendly.Bharmour a small town centers around the CHAURASHI- a group of temple which were build between the 7th and 10th century A.D. 

What to see at Bharmour:-

  • The shikara style temple known as MANIMAHESH TEMPLE enshrining a huge Shiva linga is the main temple of the Chaurashi  ;
  • Nandi Bull – a life size idol of Nandi Bull standing on four legs in front of the Shivalangam.
  •  Dharmeshvar Mahadev (Dharamraj) Temple;  the temple dedicated to the God of Death.
  • Narsingh (Narasimha) Temple;   
  • Lakshana Devi Temple (Lakhna Devi/Bhadrakali)
  • Ganesh or Ganpati Temple
  • Bharmani Mata – is 3km away from Chaurasi temple

These were the few main temples where one can have the awesome darshan of the bronze images of god and goddess which are exquisitely cast, during the 7th and 8th century A.D. Visiting Chaurasi temples  is an  awe-inspiring and memorable experience at Bharmour.  A very interesting legends were associated with this place. One can start his holy Manimahesh Yatra from this place. 

Camping and trekking amongst the lush green meadows  the mesmerizing valleys and the snow clad mountain peaks is an unforgettable experience which not only freshen your mind and body but also  enrich your soul.

The nearest air port is at Pathonkot, 120 Km from Chamba town. Other reachable air ports are Kangra(172 km), Amritsar (220 km) and Chandigrah(400 km).

Climate: In winter, the temperature gets quite low and in summer temperature is mild  Primary rainy season: June to September.  The best season to visit Bharmour is between April to October.  During winter the snow fall is as high as  5 — 6 feet as per the local.
