Jageshwar not only a favorite place for the devotes of Shiva but an important tourist destination of Kumaon, in Uttrakhand.   Jageshwar is about  37 kilometers from Amlora and situated at an altitude of 1870 meters  amid dense Deodar forest with a small stream flowing in the backyard of its group of temples.

Jageshwar Temples are a group of over 100 temples large as well as small built between the 7th and 12 century.  The site is protected under Indian laws, and managed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). It includes Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mritunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, Nava-grah Temples.   The site is about 3.5 kilometres long along the Jataganga rivulet, is a narrow forested valley of oaks, deodara, rhododendrons and pines. The region is  inhibited by villages such as Mokshadham, Dandeshwar, Jageswar and Koteshwar and its people provide the services to the devotes of Shiva  as well as the tourist,

The Katyuri rules (Circa 7th – 14th century A.D) stated to have restored the shrines and the numerous grants by various members of the  Chand Dynasty of Kumaon region  (circa 15th  to 18th century A.D) reflect their dedication to Lord Shiva by building temples at Jageshwar.

According to Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotra, Jageshwar is a sacred geography along with Somnath Gujarat, Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga Andhra Pradesh, Mahakaleshwar Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar Madhya Pradesh, Baidyanath Temple Jharkhand, Bhimashankar Maharashtra, Ramanathaswamy Temple Tamil Nadu, Kashi Vishwanath Temple Uttar Pradesh, Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Maharashtra, Kedareswar Uttarakhand and Grishneshwar-Ellora Caves Maharashtra.

HOW TO REACH JAGESHWAR

  • BY AIR  — Pantnagar airport is about 150 kilometer away from Jageshwar. From Pantnagar Airport one can get taxis; deluxe buses and can reach Jageshwar via Almora.
  • BY RAIL — Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to reach Jageshwar  The railway station is at a distance of 125 kilo meters from Jageshwar  temples.  Kathgodam railway is well joined with many important destinations around the country.   It is well connected with Delhi, Howrah and Lucknow.
  • BY ROAD. –  Jageshwar is well connected with major town of Uttranchal such as  Haldwani, Pithogarh, Almora and so on. Government undertaking buses are operates on a regular basis fro these places to Jageshwar.  Jageshwar is just 37 kilometers away from Almora from where one can easily reach to the region by cab or by bus. Jageshwar to  Delhi  is around 415  kilometers.   Buses also run from ISBT  Delhi, to Haldwani and Almora as well.
  • ROUTE FROM NAINITAL TO JAGESHWAR :  Nainital-Bhowali-Neem Karori Temple-Kharna-Almora-Chitai Golu Devta Temple-Barecheema-Panuanaula-Aartola-Jageshwar.  (115 Kilometer about 4 hours )
